He sleeps on the mattress I dream while sleeping on a clothes pile
Still I smile .. and I smile
He goes to the school while I make my dads knitting spool
Is this the God's rule?
He gets to play with the toys Sunrise, stars are all I have as joys
You pray the female Godesses and still you want, in your family, only boys.
Still.. I smile and I smile..
May be I exaggerated the expressions in this particular picture. But this paradox, hypocrisy of our social values, still prevails in Indian villages and even among educated families in bigger towns. You would still see middle class families (stuggling to barely reach the basic living standards) have three daughters and one significantly younger brother. You dont need to ask more .. this says it all. We say that we treat women equivalent to God in our value system. Why dont you want to have an avatar of Goddess in your own family. Why would you abuse your daughter-in-law if she gave birth to a girl.
Clicked on Tata Motor's township ini Jamshedpur.. sometime in January 2006.

:) so true and so touching... so innocent pic ! :)
Awesome poem dude
its beautiful and touching...cant ignore the prick i felt in my eyes reading it!!! Its amazing how discrimination is still an affluent part of the society and those who choose to look away are just being evasive.....
A girl went to house of God and said: I was a girl in this life I was a daughter and i was a wife I was timid and i was shy Aimed to to with the sky I was told to be ladylike and my brother got a bike I was told to wash and cook my brother got the book why was it I ask him "Because you were a Girl", He replied!!

i love the picture, but am somewhat disturbed by the piece of writing that follows... i know what you have written is true, but things are not as bleak as they look... compared to what things were when i was a kid, they are a lot better already... i know, because i have seen it in my extended family... and at other places too.. anyways as usual, a beautiful capture... you know something? i am getting used to it...

nice shot and post-processing!
that poem and the shot are food for thought...
it's sad to know that people are better treated because of one's gender...or skin colour or religion or simply being different...

Thought provoking pic & poem. If only.........
I don't see things improving in our desh...there are loads of ppl who have the desire to have a BOY.

Even still if a girl wants only one child, and she has a first girl, she is supposed to have another baby - a boy - just for the elders in the familys sake.. isnt that sad?
Some people are so indifferent, they wouldnt think any deeper than what other people say. They find blindly follow such society rules....
Its scary

@[EKtaran]: You know whats the worse part... mostly females only do this .. prefer baby boy over baby girl. Isnt that the biggest irony.
